One of the first perennials to come up and to bloom in my garden is Pasque Flower (Pulsatilla vulgaris). I love this first sign of spring because it emerges with a fuzzy mound of foliage one day and what seems like a day later, it blooms. It also comes in white and red, and I will have all three colors available this spring. It often blooms with the daffodils in my garden, making for a beautiful spring bouquet. They are not quite up yet in my garden this year, but if we get the 60 degree days they are predicting, it won’t be long.
It also has wonderful feathery seed heads that last much of the summer after the flowers have gone. Here the texture contrasts nicely with bearded iris.
